9/1/2023 0 Comments Key west bed and breakfastThe innkeeper was usually there to take care of the dishes and coffee. Happy hour - none Breakfast - a few pastries, orange juice, coffee, boxed cereal, some granola, and a few small things in a small fridge. I was reluctant to use such a dirty pool. There was a lot of debris falling from nearby trees, and the only pool cleaning that I saw done had to be done by the guests themselves. The innkeeper said that a pool tech was there every other day, but we saw no evidence of a pool tech being there at all during our five days and the pile of pool debris sat there as we left. Early in our stay, a guest cleaned the pool traps and left the debris in a pile for the pool tech to dispose of. Staff - an innkeeper was there sometimes, but was often gone for long periods. The door to the balcony was difficult to operate, and the white paint on the balcony had plenty of mold. The outlets worked sometimes, others not, and some were mounted on the inward-sloping wall so that plugins would fall right out. The window AC fan could only be set to 100%(loud) or zero(warm). The bathroom looked fairly new, but there were no shelves of any kind to set toiletries on. The room - ours was a corner of an attic and had a sloping ceiling that occupied part of the room door. Fresh towels must be picked up in the kitchen/office/common room. Garbage is picked up if bagged and left outside the door. The extent of housekeeping is that dirty towels are picked up if left outside the door. Let's start with: no housekeeping service. I would not have chosen this location after reading the reviews but we were staying with friends and the poor reviews are accurate. Overall, the place was just barely okay and for the price charged, that is not acceptable. Continental breakfast is a rather generous description but the coffee was good. Only one chair besides the bed which made it a bit confining - glad the weather was good so we could use the balcony a good bit when we were there - which wasn't a lot. We had a balcony that overlooked the pool, which was nice, however, it wasn't weather protected from the top so it would be unusable in the rain (that's ridiculous in Florida, the balcony should have had weather protected ceilings). Room and bathroom (private) were small but that was expected. An in-room refrigerator never got very cold, the room (due to the age and the fact it needs updating) lacked enough electrical outlets. Extra/clean towels were only available the first two days, not after that - and with the humidity issues in the room, our towels needed to be changed more frequently. There was zero housekeeping while we were there (blamed on Covid) so we had to take out our own trash every day. The location was decent, in a more quiet part of Key West, with easy walking/biking access to all the island has to offer. We booked through Vacasa - the fees were absurd and we paid $411 per night with fees and taxes (the Vacasa fees were more than the taxes). Our A/C was barely adequate in February - the room never dehumified so I can't imagine it would actually be effective in spring/summer (we live in Georgia/South Carolina so we are very familiar with southeast humidity). It was clean, staff very friendly when they were available. The property is worn and is in need of a refresh. We stayed in room 1 of Curry House for 5 nights in mid February.
